There has been done lots of development work to move to a newer qpsmtpd version
https://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8861
The mailstats script will need changes to be able to assess the new log file
contents as far as I understand.
I am not a programmer but would be happy to work closely to try to help with
the required changes.
