Not a fix but as an idea - have you tried "maildrop" instead of "procmail"?

We are using maildrop everywhere and have not yet seen any issue with it. I
believe I read something about maildrop using less resources than procmail (?)
years ago but that might be completely wrong. Just did not want to change
something that is working well here.
