so regarding the config
SMEServer=yes
remain to provide
rpm -qa smeserver-affa
and also
cat /etc/affa/scripts/SME/signal-pre-backup
finally I would try a
signal-event pre-backup
while checking at the /var/log/messages and paste the result of the log here
then check the content of
/home/e-smith/db/mysql
