Well, to be more complete and precise;
When the problem occurred on the box in use, I didn't want to touch the server
"in production" and used a 100% identical PC to play with and installed a brand
new ISO (same version) to see if I could reproduce the problem. And it did.
Cannot remember now why, but after installing and upgrading the PC with the
latest updates and reinstalling the package several times, I changed the
configuration from ServerGateway to Server-only and the problem disappeared.
Changing back to the desired ServerGateway configuration made the problem
reappear again, so I repeated the process several times, with same results, 
before I wrote the bug report.

And no, I do not like to tamper to much; "if it ain't broke, don't fix it.."
(but I like to have a spare PC stand-bye, should anything happen..)

As for your argument "I wonder if your change didn't fully update things and it
needed a reconfiguration somewhere to clear itself",

I can not eliminate this entirely, but because the several attempts from my
side  to remove the smeadmin package and reinstalling again, only to produce an
identical error, this would be highly unlikely (in my eyes).
However I must wander carefully, this is not my field of expertise.
So take this with a grain of salt ;-)
Do not take this as any form for critical comment! 
I am too grateful for all the help I've got..

Please continue the good work, and yes, closing the bug report is right at this
time.
