In the Howto it is said that there is a NIC conifguration bug : you have to manually set the NIC settings. There is nothing unusual if the firewall does not respond to pings, try to connect to port 8443 (HTTPS) (do not forget to change the SSL certificates before, cf the howto), then edit the network settings _on the web frontend_.
