I'm a total newbie, but would just like to hear a definitive answer on
whether Mandrake Linux PPC will run on older PPC Macs upgraded to G3?? I
have two UMAX S900s with G3 upgrades, one of which I would like to make a
dedicated web server out of with Mandrake.
I have gone through the convoluted process of burning the boot disks
(without the latest version of Toast for Mac (5), you have to download to
PC, extract there with ISOBuster, then burn there with Adaptec CD Creator).
Oh I wish this process were easier (and feel that Mandrake would get a lot
more Mac users if the downloaded files were easier to extract and burn on a
Mac- e.g. use a Mac compression format- and also had a simple readme on the
burning CD and installation processes-that way I'm sure you would get a lot
more Mac users checking it out). Anyway the 2 burnt disks come up fine on
my PC, but the first CD will neither boot up my S900 into Mandrake nor even
be read in OS9.
Any tips on how to get Mandrake to boot on a G3 upgraded S900 or at least an
answer on if there is any chance to get the G3 upgraded Macs to run Mandrake
at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help, Pete.
