Also the installer should have created the partition for you. It did not?

This all looks right. Again you can force the boot from Open Firmware.
Either:
boot hd:11,\\:tbxi "Open Boot - to choose MacOS, OS/X, Linux:
or
boot hd:11,\\yaboot straight to yaboot
