Well courtesy of mouseconfig (before I figured this out) I ended up
doing a reinstall (see previous email). So this time I got the
bootstrap working right. However, I think I know why the installer
isn't detecting bootstraps sometimes.
When I went to do my reinstall I decided I would delete my /boot partion
and give it's space to another HFS partion (my /exchange partition).
This caused my bootstrap to move from hd:15 to hd:14. At the end of the
install the installer defaulted to hd:15. If you dropped the box down
hd:14 was there. I also was thinking it was on hd:15 so I just clicked
okay. It came back with an error saying hd:15 wasn't at least 800KB.
So I tried again with hd:14. Now I got an error box saying there was an
error installing the bootloader in the title but not text in the window.
Nothing I tried was successful in getting the boot loader to install.
So I ended up doing the install again. This time I didn't change
any partitions, went all the way through and it detected hd:14 and
installed the bootloader properly.
My theory is that the installer detects the bootloader before diskdrake
runs and then doesn't check to see if it's changed after unless it
needed to make it itself. I haven't dug in the code for this yet but
it's just a guess.
