I ran my Powerbook for several months with only partition1 the actual
partition map, and my Linus partitions. I setup the whole drive using
Linux, with no MacOS involvement at all:

I only recently restored MacOS from a Linux netatalk server, when I got a
larger hard drive (no MacOS CD's).
