I have exactly the same problem as Eric. G4 dual processor, but made three partitions (OS X, 9.2.2, and linux). The graphical installer would not work (someone else noted the blue screen with an X on it that would do nothing and I have the same situation). The text based installer seems to install, but I cannot get it to boot using either open firmware or yaboot. The screen goes black and nothing will happen.
