Hmmmm... I don't think so. I also have the same problem with OS X on a Rev. B iMac, and it does have a "hardmodem". It started with 10.1.2, and persists on 10.1.3. It was even worse on 10.1.2, since the connection would "stall" for no reason (even if I was still connected to my ISP) and I would need to restart to get things working again.
