Hi

I have just subscribed to the list after running into a problem last
night.

I attempted to install the 8.2 beta over the top of an already working
8.0 on a G3 Powerbook, with out any joy.

Firstly, I choose to do an upgrade, and while the install was a lot
slower than a normal install it was progressing nicely until it came to
about 30 mins in when I received a message about problems installing
some of the gnome packages. It was happening with every progressive
package if I choose to skip the package, so I ended up cancelling the
install, and restarting it.

On the second run through, it got as far as requesting the second CD,
however when I put the second CD in, the installer kept spitting the CD
out and asking me to mount the second CD.

The last attempt I made was to do a clean install, telling the installer
that I only had the one cd, and then trying to use Software Manager to
install from the second CD. But when I got into Software Manager...
every single package had a zero record count, and I couldn't install
anything.

I have verified that the second CD is in fact correct. And there
doesn't appear to be any read errors on the CD as I ran an md5sum on the
RPMS2 folder and there were no errors.

I have spoken to the company that downloaded the cd's and burnt them,
and he said he couldn't think of why it wouldn't work, so I'm hoping
someone here could help out?

Thanks

Nick
