Ok, I want to try Mandrake Linux PPC 8.2b1, so I'm downloading the 2 CDs and burn them.
System SCSI Disk: 2 Gb Second SCSI Disk: 9 Gb Installed RAM: 112 Mb MacOS version: 9.1 French I'm reformatting the second disk to keep 6 Gb of HFS+, leaving about 3 Gb of extra space, available for Linux. I'm installing the BootX 1.2.2 extension into the extensions folder, the 'Linux Kernels' folder (with its content) into the system folder, then specify the 'all-2.2.gz' file in the RamDisk section, and 32000 as the RamDisk size. Now I reboot, BootX allows me to start the install, that's ok. First problem, the Linux installer doesn't recognize the PM8500 CDROM directly, precisely it tries to access the CDROM with the 'Symbiosl53c875' driver. All right, I'm telling it to use the 'mesh.o' driver, then it reads the CD correctly. I get a 'loading' progress bar, then a short message 'second stage install', and then very shortly an error message like 'Couldn't open RGB_DB (...)', couldn't read everything, sorry. From this point, I'm getting a really weird display of the installation graphic interface, some kind of interlaced thing impossible to use, while the interface itself seems to work well, it's really juste a display problem. Note: I've tried to check the 'No Video Driver' checkbox on BootX, it's worse... I'm just getting a grey BW pattern for display, with nothing at all, not even a mouse cursor. Another note: I have a Sonnet Crescendo G3/300 card installed, but it appears totally independent from the current behaviour.
