It generally only tries to load that driver because that type of card was
detected in the machine (ncr/sym53cxxx).  Until the SCSI subsystem loads,
there's no way of knowing what controller the CDROM is attached to.

Do you know what video card is in the machine? If you look at yaboot.conf,
you'll see various video=options can be used.  There is also text based
install, should no video mode work.

I don't believe this card has anything to do with the behavior either.
