I'm trying to install 8.2b2 on an 600 Mhz iBook. I attempted to partition the disk several different was and always got an error that it could not find the disk. So I dropped in to the shell and started poking around. Then I realized that the error wasn't due to the installer not finding partitions, it was due to not having /dev/hda at all. Running dmesg I find that on boot up it jumps right to hdb and says nothing about hda. This machine installs OS9 and OSX just fine, is there some firmware or kernel option that might help it find the correct device?
