What image are you trying to use? vmlinux is what is used for most Apple machines. RS6000 uses it's own image. What are newkernel scripts? Since I have no idea what config options you used, it's rather hard to tell you what the problem is. Compare your options with those used for the shipped kernel and you may see what the problem is.
