Take a look at these numbers (noarch packages):
$ ls /mirrors/cooker/alpha/Mandrake/RPMS/*.noarch.rpm | wc -l
394
$ ls /mirrors/cooker/i586/Mandrake/RPMS/*.noarch.rpm | wc -l
364
$ ls /mirrors/contrib/alpha/*.noarch.rpm | wc -l
702
$ ls /mirrors/contrib/i586/*.noarch.rpm | wc -l
399
I'm quite amazed to see > 700 noarch packages in the alpha contrib
archive, while i586 has > 300 LESS.
And now for the alpha and i586 packages:
$ ls /mirrors/contrib/alpha/*.alpha.rpm | wc -l
652
$ ls /mirrors/contrib/i586/*.i586.rpm | wc -l
1604
$ ls /mirrors/cooker/alpha/Mandrake/RPMS/*.alpha.rpm | wc -l
2000
$ ls /mirrors/cooker/i586/Mandrake/RPMS/*.i586.rpm | wc -l
1901
Here you can see that little has been done on fixing the contrib
BuildRequires (my build & upload robot installs the BR before building &
uploading).

Something needs to change in the way that the cooker & contrib distro's
are maintained. I've asked Warly for full controll of the alpha distro
(it's unsupported anyway), in order to straighten out this mess. He has
put me in the "alpha" group, which allows me to delete files from the
distro, but some smart undelete robot puts them back within an hour
(sounds like windoze, right?). Anyway, he warned me that it wouldn't work.
As an outsider I don't have enough knowledge about the systems to have a
valid opinion (I just complain too much).
But bugging a Warly or Lenny for every change to the distro isn't nice for
them either.
