It's the reason we have missing SRPMS, it's the reason we end up with missing noarch's.
Same here for the alpha tree. I can remove packages from it, but they will be put back by the friggin robot within an hour. I don't know how to add package with force. So no, we don't have control, and that's stupid. Time to fork?As far as I'm concerned you should have complete control over what goes into the PPC tree. You don't and that's stupid. I can't imagine how you can manage to get anything done.
Doing stuff for a week won't solve squat. Structural things need to change, or the non-i586 archs are DEAD or will require significant manpower to keep up.If the i586 guys want to continue to control stuff going into the PPC tree, perhaps they should actually start working on it, start accepting patches for it. Maybe Warly or someone should come over and do the PPC work for a week.
The problem is that:
- there is little commitment for non-i586 archs;
- too much stuff is done in a manualy;
The way I think it should work is that only a src.rpm is uploaded and then built for all archs. If the build fails (for any arch) then it's rejected. That's the only way to keep all archs in sync.
Also: one central noarch repository. Try to split up the packages into: alpha, i586, ia64, noarch, ppc, x86-64, etc. The noarch tree just doesn't get an installer, the rest does.
