The list works like so: No reply-to header in the message the reply-to is set to the list. If there is a reply-to in the header the reply-to is not changed. I don't know about pine (I seem to recall that's what you use), but in mutt there is a reply to list option that lets me ignore the reply-to header and always reply to the list.
