post-install probs

I installed 8.2 on a Powerbook G3/266 Series.
The install went well. But I'm having three difficulties.

First, I set the machine to boot into graphic mode, not text.
But I must have messed _something_ up because the keyboard is messed up. When I try to enter my name and password, the wrong characters appear. For example, I think 'j' is 'enter' and so forth. Any way to fix this?

Second, I'm new to using pppoe. I always had a static IP addy. And for some reason, I simply can't get connected to the internet. When prompted by the installer, I chose to set up "adsl" and eth0. I entered my info for pppoe. And then when it prompted me to set up local network, I hit 'enter' as it suggested.
Then it opened a new fram asking for hostname, dns and router info. I entered my host name (fqdn) and blanked out the dns and router entries.
But I still can't connect to the internet.
Any thoughts? I'd send error logs but I can't access them until I fix the keyboard issues.

Finally, I need to set up a small mailserver (preferably postfix, but sendmail will do).
I've been able to accomplish this by getting dyndns's custom dns service. It works flawlessly on OS X and NetBSD. But I just can't seem to get mail in linux.

I suspect that both networking probs are related. And i know I need to send more info to get proper help. But is there anything _obviously_ wrong in my network setup based on what I've outlined above?
