After fighting a long battle named "True Type fonts under
Mandrake" I finally won. See my previous email to read
the description of the problem.
I noticed that Microsoft allows people to download fonts
from their website. I was wondering if they would let
Mandrake and others download them and bundle them with
their distribution. All setup for printing with StarOffice
etc.
I briefly read the License and it seems that the 2 major points
are :
1. You could distribute the fonts as long as you include the
copyright notice also.
2. Distribution of the fonts to make money was prohibited.
Maybe the #2 could be avoided, if Mandrake wrote to MS and asked
them nicely to grant Mandrake an exclusion. Or put out a seperate
RPM and put it on an ftp server for seperate download, instead
of putting it on the CD they sell.
There may have been other problems with the License that I may
have missed. Please forgive me, if I have.
I have partially been able to get the TT fonts to display and
print on my M6.1 using StarOffice and other apps. I absolutely
love it. StarOffice's collection of fonts stinks. There is
a fix but most of the people will not fight the same battle as
I and will keep using the inferior Linux setup and keep admiring
the fonts on their colleague's Windows machine. Someone has
to fix this for once and all.
