This process does work on RedHat 6.0 systems. However it doesn't work on
Mandrake 6.0 or 6.1, in my expereience. Mandrake 6.[01] come with badly
configured fonts that prevent addition of any new fonts. It took me rather
long time to identify these, take them out and then it all almost works.
There is another lengthy process to get these new fonts or any TTF fonts
that Mandrake comes with, working with StarOffice. You see, the process
you mentioned sets up your computer so that you can view these fonts. But
you cant really print them this way.
I hope that some distribution does take care of this problem, so that people
like me do not end up wasting several hours trying to get halfway decent fonts
to display and print from their Linux computers.
Even after spending alot of energy on this, I only have a partially working
TTF font subsystem. And I suspect there are many others like me.
