The failed gi_hd (latest) install left my Mandrake-Linux a mess. It failed while
attempting to install the packages (after selecting). Dozens of error
messages, just like the previous version. I don't know where to start with the
error messages given...

The first error was:
Running: insmod serial
Running: insmod_/lib/modules/serial.o
Error: insmod serial failed at /usr/bin/perl-install/modules.pm line 189

I used a rescue disk and saw that the basic formatting did not erase any
files at all. I was able to floppy boot into a working linux but the rpm data
base got screwed up. It shows that I didn't even have a kernel installed. I
tried to rebuild the rpm database but this didn't work so I updated with
boot.img from Mdk6. I had to remove hundreds of *.rpmorig and other files.

Interesting experience with linux. All cleaned up now.

"It takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'" hehehe ;-)

I'd like to at least run boot.img to clean things up.
