Tried out the "beginners" hd install from ext2 /usr/local/cooker for the first
time.

1) it skipped mouse config (which was good as generic PS/2 w/ emulation does
not cause my Intellipoint wheel mouse to die at x configuration). I did have to
run mouseconfig after booting into Mandrake. This was not a problem because the
mouse worked OK as a two button mouse.

2) it skipped keyboard config

3) named my dos partitions dos_C and dos_D. Fstab entries were made, but no
mount points. I had to make fstab entry for /usr/local (install path). Maybe
add comment here to: "right click on parition to name". I deleted and changed
the sizes of several partitions, rebooted and continued. Maybe "reboot" button
for this event instead of "ctrl-alt-delete".

3) chose the 645/2763 package selection without looking at what it would install
(a beginner wouldn't understand much of the packages anyway) and this gave me a
very good workstation configuration. Just had to add ppp (plus few rpm related
fixes) and I was up and running. (wrong ppp for kernel-2.2.x - I commented out
alias' in conf.modules as usual)

The beginners package selection is going to be confusing. Maybe
descriptive levels. Could be in documentation what you get for each level (
very general like newt install)

4) don't like the fact that ALL translations of man-pages and ISO were
installed. Maybe this can be tagged to selected language? Should have man-pages
as default. They're good to have. Just not all languages.

5) package installations times are off by around 50% extra. Newt install does
fairly good job. Maybe comment at bottom should read:
"Selected packages are now being installed." without the "..... should only take
a few minutes" It took about 28 minutes for my install.

6) a few dependencies not installed (separate email)

7) latest initscripts doesn't run kdm so I changed prefdm - link to
/usr/bin/kdm

8) work around for installing kdelibs (thanks)

9) first time all the way through using mouse.

Looking better and better.....
