I haven't tried Corel Linux, but I agree that the Mandrake boot sequence
could be more fun. The standard boot output should still be available on a
virtual console. People don't usually need to see the boot messages unless
they are testing recently installed packages or something fails.

I actually had a cheap impersonation of the desired behavior running back
when I was still running RH5.2. I did it by keeping some JPG images as
/etc/logos/rl1.jpg .. rl6.jpg ; in /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit, a quick call to
zgv brought up the correct picture. I probably have a backup of the file if 
anyone cares, but I'm sure that for inclusion in Mandrake we'd want to come 
up with a better way.

The reason I was messing with this stuff was that in Windoze, it is fairly
easy to replace the startup and shutdown screens with pictures of your
family, say. It would be neat to have similar graphics to play with in
Mandrake.
