Some more information on the GUI installer.
I have been trying it on a Micron Millennia Transport notebook (P133,
32MB). I have encountered problems with any Linux distribution that
uses a graphical installer (I figured this time I'd try to get it fixed
before the actual release version).
There is a documented problem with the video chipset in this system
(explained on a webpage that discusses installing Linux on these
machines, at http://linux.isdi.com ). The page discusses Steven A.
Reisman discussing the video blackout problem on the Transport XPE.
"I've made some progress with my Micron Transport XPE. The Linux boot
code doesn't know about the Cirrus 7555 video chip. It identifies it as
a Cirrux 54xx. The code saves the current video settings and
mis-initializes the chip causing the screen to blank. When I hit
CTL-ALT-DEL, the saved video settings are restored during shutdown which
turns the screen back on."
When I tried installing (upgrading my existing Mandrake 6.1, and also
trying "expert" mode), I got the following error messages:
(after CDROM initialization)
