I wasn't sure on the status of the HP 882. I was responding mostly to the
person who mentioned he was having the same problem with the HP 720, as it
is not supported under Linux. I thought it might be possible that the HP
882 was in the same category (WinPrinters), and that's why I mentioned you
might want to check HP's website concerning the use of a JetDirect on your
particular printer.
I mentioned the JetDirect box only because the same printers that don't work
with a JetDirect box are the same printers that aren't supported under Linux
(for the same reasons, in fact).
Sorry if I confused you. Just trying to clear up the HP 720 issue.

I think you are mistaken. I can configure, and have been using my
HP 882C without a JetDirect for months now. It is connected directly to my
parallel. When I configure it using RedHat "printtool" it works fine. It's
just that fact that Lothar crashes and hangs the machine that I am
concerned with.
