I put GNOME in /etc/sysconfig/desktop so that prefdm would select gdm as
my graphical login manager. Then I ran gdm and it complained about group
gdm not existing. So I used userconf to create the gdm group and add
myself and root to the group. I tried running gdm again and got the
message that /var/gdm is not owned as gdm.gdm. So I did a chown -R
gdm.gdm /var/gdm and ran gdm again...this time I got a kernel panic and
my system froze. I know I've had gdm working before with an rpm from
gnome.linuxpower.org but those seem to have disappeared. Anyway, it
would be great it something could be fixed for gdm to work.

Thanks!
