It worked ok yesterday (current uptime is 1 day, 22:40) but now my audio subsystem is completly screwed. I don't know if it's because VMWARE was left open all that time, but now kmpg slows down my system to an halt when I play the same mp3 that worked ok before. Now that I closed VMWARE, I get a "kmpg couldn't open the audio device, all decoders stopped". No sound at all coming out. This might be the same thing that I reported before (system slowing down regularly), possibly everytime VMWARE Win'98 tries to play an audioclip. Now, I also get extra errors: Sound Blaster: DSP command(41) timeout. Sound Blaster: DSP command(ac) timeout. Sound Blaster: DSP command(44) timeout. Sound Blaster: DSP command(b6) timeout. Sound Blaster: DSP command(30) timeout. Sound Blaster: DSP command(ff) timeout. Sound Blaster: DSP command(7) timeout. Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error? Sound Blaster: DSP command(7) timeout. *shutting down X and redoing the sndconfig did solve the problem however... * Methink VMWARE is having a bad interaction with the rest of the system. Which is weird because I don't remember previous install on RH6.1/Mandrake6.1 doing this. Could someone tell me if they've got the same problems? From what I could read on VMWARE support web page, sound support is buggy anyway, but I have to wonder why my system slows to a crawl... -something else I picked up with dmesg: kcminfo uses obsolete /proc/pci interface -How about adding the following folders and reordering the different KDE menu items in them (specifically from Utilities and everything under "Gnome and X apps") System Utilities, Desktop utilities, Productivity The main folder should also have subfolders (for example, under Internet: Mail, Web, Net, FTP, etc), perhaps with an if condition (if number of items in folder is >5, then create following subfolders...) since nobody like having 3 items distributed in 5 empty subfolders ;-) This would make the menu clean, structured and efficient to use with access to the full functionnality offered by the system even when everything is installed. In fact, I think someone should come with an overall standard structure for all distributions and some "hints" in RPM for ultimate placement in those folders. No sense in having a different menu for each distribution... -After contacting tech support, I realized that my OKIDATA OL400e uses the same driver then the HP Laserjet IIP. I tested it and it prints the test page perfectly ok. You could add an alias in the printer selection menu and magically support another printer ;-) UPGRADE TO OXYGEN-3 -Message w/upgrade to HPT366 could be a bit better. A mention that the boot disk would serve so that the install has access to the other hard drives (not necessarily useful for everyone ;-)) -I don't know why the install doesn't autodetect the root partition! It already know wheter such or such partition is root or not, why not autodetect? -Why ask for the type of install when the user is going to upgrade? -"Please wait, preparing for installation" takes a lots of time. This isn't a problem in itself, but the program should show that some activity is going on. -Console 1 shows the following errors and warnings: Glib_WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to : no such user Error reading info on service mcserv: No such file or directory /var/tmp/rmp-tmp.66851: /sbin/chkconfig: No such file or directory /var/tmp/rmp-tmp.66851: /sbin/chkconfig: No such file or directory grep: /usr/lib/linuxconf/uninstall/options: No such file or directory -Trying to install the crypto but it won't work for anyone of them: An error occurred Net::FTP:Bad Peer address... propagated -Why does my kdm logo for my user looks like a female penguin for my user? -Why do I have remadmin and remadmin.rpmorig in /sbin? According to diff, they're the same... -The upgrade installed a folder Chinese with (a program that isn't installed): Chinese X input method Thanks, ===== Ricky Ng-Adam Capitaine du projet S.O.N.I.A.
