I wouldn't run out and purchase a new network card, as your card probably
works. It's the PCMCIA install that doesn't. I have both a 3Com card and a
Xircom card (which doesn't have linux drivers), and I can't install via PCMCIA.
But the 3Com card works fine once linux is installed. (I have OS/2 (which has a
driver for the Xircom card but not the 3Com!) installed on my laptop as well as
linux, and I mirrored the ftp site on my drive. I then installed linux with a hd
install. I was never able to get a PCMCIA network install to work. I haven't
tried it with yet with an external SCSI drive, so that might work.
