Well, I go to /usr/share/mimelnk/application and create a mimetype called
x-msword for the binary patterns *.doc;*.DOC; and bind it to StarOffice,
after installing StarOffice with the /net option and installing it to /root
and /home/theuser as workstation (I install it to /root to put it where I can
manipulate it to the main menu).
Then I go to /usr/share/applnk/ and open the StarOffice one (usually there
are more than one but any will do, whether in a package on the main menu or
not. I am making a submenu called Office and putting SO, KLyX, Acrobat
Reader, KOrganizer and kedit into it, so I usually go there and use the tabs
at the top of the applnk to get to Application then select the appropriate
mimetype and move it to the left side. Of course, at home the situation is
different. I tried setting text/rtf to Maxwell and BLEAH, it couldn't handle
a file much bigger than a meg without my spit shining the Empire State
building while waiting for it to open, so I found siag office and use
Pathetic Writer from that suite.
