Could you check if these lines appears in the Makefile:
savelogo.c:
ln -sf savelogo-i386.c savelogo-alpha.c
ln -sf savelogo-$(ARCH).c savelogo.c
If not, try to add them and re-build, and tell me if it changes
things.

Oups. I've just checked. These lines doesn't appear in the -5mdk release.
I'll add them, but I'm waiting for your experiment...
