For un-installed packages, I just did an
rpm -ip /E/M*/R*/* > /root/allpkgs
and then I grep in there when I want to figure out what Mandrake failed
to install that it should have . . . [See item #4e of my "Suggestions"
mail to get what this last bit is referring to.]
Is there some more elegant/standard way to do this?
Perhaps future Mandrake disks could have some such thing on the disk
someplace already?

| On a system with the libraries:
|
| rpm -qf /path/to/lib
|
| .. will report the package it came from.
|
| Does that help?

| Subject: [Cooker] fsv-0.9-1mdk.rpm
|
|
|
| The fsv-0.9-1.i386.rpm works (albiet slowly)
| on my oldest, slowest machine with LM-6.1 and extras
|
| The fsv-0.9-1mdk rpm from contribs on my faster machine
| with LM7.0x/Cooker does not perform as well.
| It gave no error messages while installing.
|
| My initial attempt to install the non-mdk rpm
| on the newer machine gave some errors re :
| libMesaGL.so.3 and libMesaGU.so.3 missing
|
| So the older machine has those,The newer machine does not.
| The older machine has a better video card with 8mgs
| The newer machine has 4mgs.(Silly isn't it!)
|
| Question 1# Refresh my memory (again) how to locate the
| package(s) containing the missing libs. An 'rpmfind' turned
| up a SUSE rpm and I wasnt sure whether to go ahead?
|
| When packages are installed on the newer machine
| I will first test then uninstall the mdk rpm,
| and install the i386rpm to see if the 3d style rendering
| works and if not will know the video card "can't cut it"
|
| This file viewer is very "eye-catching" and "snazzy" and
| if it really works could be another enticement to lure
| away potential converts from the "DarkSide". Whether functionally
| useful on a faster machine remains for others with more
| horsepower to decide.
