Neither:

[root@pc /tmp]# rpm -e linuxconf
grep: /usr/lib/linuxconf/uninstall/options: No such file or directory
removal of /var/log/linuxconf/netconf.log failed: No such file or directory
removal of /var/log/linuxconf/htmlaccess.log failed: No such file or directory
rename of /etc/conf.linuxconf to /etc/conf.linuxconf.rpmsave failed: No such file or
directory
[root@pc /tmp]# rpm -ivh linuxconf-1.17r4-2mdk.i586.rpm
linuxconf ##################################################
[root@pc /tmp]#

It is probably worth noting that when I got the messages I was doing an
"rpm -Uvh".
