I had once a similar problem on a box with 128 mb of ram, when telling
ram=32M at install.

Please could you describe your problem. Mine was: it locked at about 2/3
of the format of a 6 Gb partition when telling ram=32M ; but went fine
with all the memory.

[it's quite strange and we did not find the origin of the problem]
