Just a few things I found so far:

1.  Although the Promise Ultra 66 was found during the install, the kernel is not tuned to take advantage of it.  hdparm -tT reveals a transfer rate of about 4MB per second.
2.  Right-clicking on the KDE desktop and then, clicking on new only reveals one choice, Folder.  There should be others including Application.
3.  A grub install to /dev/hde bios=0x80 had no effect.  When I rebooting my PC after the install was complete, the Windows 2000 boot.ini menu appeared.
