Ummm

if the new KPPP is stable enough for production use, it can
probably be used with the current kde--see 
www.kde.org/kde1-and-kde2.html for details from David Faure on
how to run KDE2 apps on KDE1--I am using Konqueror that way and
now the only use I have for Netscape is as a message center.
