IMO it is also normally that performance is worse with a lowlatency kernel, because the kernel will more often be able to switch to an other task. That is the whole point of it. Not better performance, but better continuity for all tasks (only problem is that, sometimes X is put on the bottom of the scheduling queue, and an interactive event can suddenly take a few seconds before the system executes your mouse-click or whatever. A nice solution is now in the latest 2.5 kernels, but I do not think it can easily be backported; Another (not so nice) solution is to renice X). d.
