I have freeradius running on a recent cooker box. The default "system" authentication doesn't work but it doesn't work in the tarball either.
"File" authentication works well and is fast for perhaps a few thosand users. I haven't tried SQL or LDAP authentication but "file" serves my interests at the moment. This way username and password permits shell, dialup and mail access with no additional structures. This scheme knows nothing about authorization and the suggested cisco aaa configuration (straight from the tarball) is inappropriate. Text file detail logging and sql logging work well - the sql script to create the database is missing (but is in the tarball). The GUI is broken (and commented out in the rpms) but the tarball is also. Thanks to Oden. Jim Tarvid
