hm,
may be i'm wrong,
but it appears to me that he's useing
the ati.2 drivers
( from contrib or manually installed)
which require different radeon drm driver:
drm-kernel from http://gatos.sf.net

i don't know how is the ati.2 package in
contrib made, but i assume that neither
the ati.2 package nor the kernel provide
this radeon drm driver.

1. when i installed the ati.2 package from contrib,
it didn't recompile the radeon driver
( i don't use cooker kernel,
so ati.2 couldn't have built module,
 and should eventually recompile it)

2. the ati.2 drivers are not in cooker main,
so it's hard to believe that the cooker kernel
has the drm module from ati.2

description:
After I upgraded to the most recent cooker I lost 3d acceleration, so I went hunting
in
the usual places to find the culprit. Lo and behold, my XFree86.0.log states that the
DRI module, radeon.o is too old and refuses to start.

The version of the radeon.o is 1.7.0, whereas the X server tells me that it wants
1.100.0 or greater.
