But this does mean that 9.1 goes out the door with KDE and KDE apps unable to run in Xnest or vnc. Major, major, major, and it means I'm going to have to stick to 9.0. oh Poo. -- Greg
I agree that being unable to run in Xnest or use vnc is a major problem. It is inconceivable to me that anyone would consider releasing an important new version of the primary product of a firm knowing it has many serious flaws. First impressions are important. Does Mandrake want to be viewed as easy to install without problems and suitable for reliable use in professional applications or merely as a hobby product suitable for hackers? No one likes release dates to slip, but it is far better to be late with a good product than on-time with rubbish. Which is better in a restaurant, slow delivery of delicious food or quick delivery of food that cannot be eaten?
9.1rc2 is not a Release Candidate, because it is not suitable for general release. Neither is a 9.1rc2 system upgraded with all the latest fixes. 9.1 should be released when it is reasonably ready, not when some arbitrary date has been reached, ready or not.
I recognize that Mandrake may have reasons I have no knowledge of to release before the product is ready. From time-to-time, we all are compelled to do certain things in life we know are fundamentally wrong. However, to the extent Mandrake can control the release date of 9.1 its long-term future will be much brighter if it chooses to release when the product is ready.
