Thanks for the quick reply, with that things are looking up.

Using the "Add a new printer" in "PrinterDrake" is exactly the problem. For your
information
the HP printer I use is a multifunction device for scanning, faxing and printing. The
model is
actullay HP T45 not HP 45T as previously stated.

Here are the icons/menus I have selected:

Configuration
Mandrake Control Centre
Hardware
PrinterDrake

The system then automatically starts to search for printers. It finds the HP T45 and
adds it, in
the meantime I have 8 of them :-).

Only thereafter the menu which I would have expected originally comes up, where I
supposedly can add a printer. Clicking on "Add new printer" actually brings me back to
the
icon of "PrinterDrake" (I am now at the same point as I was after clicking on
Hardware). Of
course you can imagine what happens next: I click on "PrinterDrake" again and it will
automaticall add HP T45 as number 9!

For your information I have tried every item in the menu of PrinterDrake, they all
revert back
to the "PrinterDrake" icon. They do not let me enter into any of the menus. It appears
as if
they are all latched onto the same command as "Done".

In the meantime I have at least found a way to delete the extra printer instances.
This I have
been able to do via:

Configuartion
Control Centre (not Mandrake Control Centre)
Peripherals
Printers

Then I right clicked on the extra instances and were able to "Remove" them. I have
however
not seen any way to add any printers in that particular menu.

Let me know if you need furthe rinfo.

Dietmar

description:
Hi, I am new to Linux in generel and Mandrake specifically. It is the first
time i am entering a bugzilla report, so please bear with me. I may also be
doing something wrong, simply because i am new to the software. Even if that
is so, the software needs to be further simplified to prevent those problems.

I have been trying 9.1rc2 recently and really like what I see. All the most
important periperals were recognized automatically. There is one big problem
for me though:

There does not seem to be a clear way to install a network printer at the
beginning. I am using a Xerox (sometimes called Tektronix) Phaser 860 directly
on the ethernet. The OS did recognize my HP 45T on the parallel port
correctly. Later I did try to install the Phaser via printerdrake. Every time
the system automatically looks for attached printers and finds the HP 45T and
also installs again. In the meantime - kept trying - I have 6 installations of
the HP 45T printer but still no phaser. The system only appears to be looking
for parallel and possibly USB printers but leaves the network printers out.
Once it has found the printer it autoimatically goes back to the icon of
printerdrake, there is no pssibility to choose to install ot to discard.

Does anybody have an answer, the new distro seems so nice and I am keen on
using it but cannot without the printer solution.

Please let me know, if you need further info.

Dietmar
