I've fixed my problem what happens is that because I installed on an update not a
fresh install my system was still using my old kernel. I have a custom boot menu and
it
kept my old settings. I guess I blundered. I have changed the boot process to boot
the newest kernel and I have accel although there are a couple of graphic faults I
think that is down to the game not the setup. Thanks for your help.

I have no accel in X 3D games. This is what the log says:
(WW) RADEON(0): [dri] Some DRI features disabled because of version mismatch.
[dri] radeon.o kernel module version is 1.2.0 but 1.3.1 or later is preferred.
(WW) RADEON(0): [agp] AGP not available
I am using the very latest cooker X and kernel. Hardware setup is. AMD Athlon XP
2000+ Radeon 7500 Msi kt4 motherboard and 256 mb ddr ram. Dunno if thats
relevant.
