By having your own nntp server, you will keep your participants down to those who are sufficiently interested to set up an account on their newsreaders. You could also set uo a password using the same criteria for people who subscribe to the email group.


What about mirroring the club forums at a nntp-server too? Most newsreaders are much more advanced than the web interface (e.g. filter, scoring, etc.).
