I haven't followed the discussion from the beginning, but here is my
contribution to the discussion...
I have Asus NForce2 motherboard which comes with 3c920 (Tornado) chipset
and it works just fine. (Uptodate cooker is detecting it in the harddrake
and uses 3c905 module for drivers...)

Subject: Re: [Cooker] Re: correction to ldetect-lst
Hello,
I am not 100 % sure, but as far as i know the 3C920 is a modified 3C905,
the 3C920 seems to be mainly used as onboard-device on mobo's, so it could
be possible that the 3c905 module works, at least in Windows you can get
the 3c920 to work with the 3c905 drivers, at work we have some HP Vectra
with 3c920 onboard and all use the 3c905 driver, if I remember correctly
the drivers HP offers for download for those Vectras are 3c905 drivers and
they work.
Hope I could help
Greetings
