------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-03-27 19:50 ------- Thanks! I tried 'lspcidrake -v' on both 9.0 and 9.1 [oh, and apologies for my mistake, referring to a 3c509 nic -if anyone ploughs through what's below, it's obviously a 3c905] This is what I got: 9.0 3c59x : 3Com Corporation|3c905 100BaseTX [Boomerang] [NETWORK_ETHERNET] (vendor:10b7 device:9050) 9.1 3c59x : 3Com Corporation|3c905 100BaseTX [Boomerang] [NETWORK_ETHERNET] (vendor:10b7 device:9050) [Also, Windows 98 reports it as "3Com Fast Etherlink XL 10/100MB TX Ethernet NIC (3c905-TX)"] /etc/modules.conf from 9.0: --------------------------- probeall scsi_hostadapter aic7xxx alias eth0 3c59x alias sound-slot-0 es1371 probeall usb-interface usb-uhci /etc/modules.conf from 9.1: --------------------------- probeall usb-interface usb-uhci probeall scsi_hostadapter aic7xxx alias eth0 3c59x alias sound-slot-0 es1371 As far as I can see, these are pretty much identical, unless the _order_ of entries in /etc/modules.conf is important? Unfortunately, I can't find a 3c905 module to try out, but the 3c59x obviously works in 9.0 ... Full output from lspcidrake -v (in case any other hardware details will help): 9.0 ------------------- agpgart : Intel Corporation|440BX/ZX - 82443BX/ZX Host bridge [BRIDGE_HOST] (vendor:8086 device:7190) unknown : Intel Corporation|440BX/ZX - 82443BX/ZX AGP bridge [BRIDGE_PCI] (vendor:8086 device:7191) unknown : Intel Corporation|82371AB PIIX4 ISA [BRIDGE_ISA] (vendor:8086 device:7110) unknown : Intel Corporation|82371AB PIIX4 IDE [STORAGE_IDE] (vendor:8086 device:7111) usb-uhci : Intel Corporation|82371AB PIIX4 USB [SERIAL_USB] (vendor:8086 device:7112) sonypi : Intel Corporation|82371AB PIIX4 ACPI - Bus Master IDE Controller [BRIDGE_OTHER] (vendor:8086 device:7113) bttv : Brooktree Corporation|Bt878 [MULTIMEDIA_VIDEO] (vendor:109e device:036e subv:0070 subd:13eb) btaudio : Brooktree Corporation|Bt878 [MULTIMEDIA_OTHER] (vendor:109e device:0878 subv:0070 subd:13eb) 3c59x : 3Com Corporation|3c905 100BaseTX [Boomerang] [NETWORK_ETHERNET] (vendor:10b7 device:9050) es1371 : Ensoniq|ES1371 [AudioPCI-97] [MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO] (vendor:1274 device:1371) aic7xxx : Adaptec|AHA-7850 [STORAGE_SCSI] (vendor:9004 device:5078) Card:Matrox Millennium G200: Matrox|MGA G200 AGP [Millennium] AGP [DISPLAY_VGA] (vendor:102b device:0521 subv:102b subd:ff00) unknown : Virtual|Hub [] (vendor:0000 device:0000) scanner : AGFA-Gevaert NV|SnapScan e20 [Vendor Specific Class|Vendor Specific Subclass|Vendor Specific Protocol] (vendor:06bd device:2091) ---------------------- 9.1 ---------------------- agpgart : Intel Corporation|440BX/ZX - 82443BX/ZX Host bridge [BRIDGE_HOST] (vendor:8086 device:7190) unknown : Intel Corporation|440BX/ZX - 82443BX/ZX AGP bridge [BRIDGE_PCI] (vendor:8086 device:7191) unknown : Intel Corporation|82371AB PIIX4 ISA [BRIDGE_ISA] (vendor:8086 device:7110) unknown : Intel Corporation|82371AB PIIX4 IDE [STORAGE_IDE] (vendor:8086 device:7111) usb-uhci : Intel Corporation|82371AB PIIX4 USB [SERIAL_USB] (vendor:8086 device:7112) sonypi : Intel Corporation|82371AB PIIX4 ACPI - Bus Master IDE Controller [BRIDGE_OTHER] (vendor:8086 device:7113) bttv : Brooktree Corporation|Bt878 [MULTIMEDIA_VIDEO] (vendor:109e device:036e subv:0070 subd:13eb) btaudio : Brooktree Corporation|Bt878 [MULTIMEDIA_OTHER] (vendor:109e device:0878 subv:0070 subd:13eb) 3c59x : 3Com Corporation|3c905 100BaseTX [Boomerang] [NETWORK_ETHERNET] (vendor:10b7 device:9050) es1371 : Ensoniq|ES1371 [AudioPCI-97] [MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO] (vendor:1274 device:1371) aic7xxx : Adaptec|AHA-7850 [STORAGE_SCSI] (vendor:9004 device:5078) Card:Matrox Millennium G200: Matrox Graphics, Inc.|MGA-G200 AGP [DISPLAY_VGA] (vendor:102b device:0521 subv:102b subd:ff00) unknown : Unknown|USB UHCI Root Hub [Hub|Root Hub] (vendor:0000 device:0000) scanner : AGFA-Gevaert NV|SnapScan e20 [Vendor Specific Class|Vendor Specific Subclass|Vendor Specific Protocol] (vendor:06bd device:2091) ----------------------- On Thu, 2003-03-27 at 11:32, tmb wrote: ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. ------- Reminder: ------- assigned_to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] status: UNCONFIRMED creation_date: description: [see bug #781 - closed as fixed] I have a 3c509 NIC and have failure to connect to network as in #781. Boot options (noapic and acpi=off), together or separately, make no difference. Have tried manual 'ifup eth0', this also fails. Mdk9.0 works fine, apparently with same module, 3c59x [I see a module 3c509 also present??] and without either of the above boot options. I have 9.0 and 9.1 installed on the same PC and have compared setup as far as I understand, can see no differences.
