No problem here, I can switch dynamically from Lucida Console to Lucida
Typewriter and Gnome terminal adjusts itself. US environment.
The default setting in Gnome-terminal is monospace 12 and I can check
and uncheck "use same as others".

If you restart it, you see that the font has changed and the box is now unchecked.
