If I'm not mistaken, that's the same kernel-source as Mandrake 9.1
shipped with...
Run "make xconfig" again, Ron.
Click on "ATA/IDE/MFM/RLL support"
Now click on "IDE, ATA, and ATAPI block devices"
Scroll down to "Promise PDC202{68|69|70|71|75|76|77} support"
Under that is "Special FastTrak feature"
Click on "Help" next to "Special FastTrak feature"
A dialog appears: "CONFIG_PDC_202XX_FORCE..."
Now, either you're wrong, illiterate, or just not that observant. I can
rule the second option out. Given your tendency to notice minor flaws
and go completely overboard, I doubt the third option.
