sure! sure! i'm not angry after you for that!! i'm happy of your
comments..
what i want to say is that it is hard to get up and say "You have to
respect standards, little boys!", because we are just in *need* of the
community's work, so we generally don't want to act like big brothers
saying what should be done to what should not.. it would not be good!
for example, about coding conventions: did you know that Gnu asks C
programmers to respect this rule:

main()
{
..
-> you should put a CR after the return type of each functions; that is
-> here, you write `int' then you push return then you write the name of
-> your function. [this is to facilitate the grepping in sourcecode when
-> you look for function's implementation; you use "^function-name"]
what i want to say is that, gnu is respected as good people, and even with
this position, only a few people take care of their advices about coding
free software for the gnu project; so it would be very hard for
mandrakesoft, the young company, to come and tell these programmers that
they have to respect conventions to fit with our needs!
we need an open group of people to decide these conventions, IMHO..
