If you have midnight commandrer installed, you can probably run it after mounting your partitions by including the full path the the binary > 2. would it not be nice to integrate the ncurses versions of the > drakxstools, so you could alter some of the basic configuration 3. You'd have to chroot so that the correct config files were changed, or have a special version that pointed to the correct locations since the root filesystem is not the same as the system filesystem. What if there are several installations also, how could you tell which one you were editing? > partimage would be nice, so you could image your partitions Why do you need to be in rescue mode to do this? > > 4. is it possible to remove packages via rpm/urpmi in rescue mode ? if not > it would be nice to have such a feature When would you need to do this in rescue mode? same problems as above. In my mind, rescue mode is for salvaging a system that won't boot. Once it will boot, you can go install or uninstall any package you want. > after all my idea is to have a basic operating system, the absolute dream > however would be something like knoppix without all those gimmicks > included: a basic graphic system with the ability to remove packages, image > partitions and edit configuration files in a comfortable way Once your system is bootable, why wouldn't you want to just boot into it to take care of these things? Could be security issue too. Don't have root access to a box? no problem, just boot with the Mandrake rescue cd and reconfigure the system so it is yours. -- /g "Outside of a dog, a man's best friend is a book, inside a dog it's too dark to read" -Groucho Marx
